About J. Rodriguez
Language Arts Specialist
PROFESSIONAL BIO:

A native of Ohio, I pursued English studies as an undergrad. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Akron in 2003. While working as a home school teacher, I discovered that I have a passion for teaching. As a result, I went on to study English Education at Clark Atlanta University, where I earned my Master’s degree in 2007.

I have fifteen years of teaching experience as a 6-12th grade English Language Arts teacher. Most of my entire teaching career has been dedicated to educating various students: SPED, ESL, and gifted. During my eight years of teaching, I earned an ESL endorsement from Gwinnett County Public Schools in Suwannee, Georgia.

I use my knowledge and teaching skills to create lesson plans that challenge and engage students to equip them with the skills needed to maximize their fullest potential. My lesson plans encourage students to explore learning through independent thought and collaboration activities. I also use various online assessment methods to ensure that each of my students is learning.

Additionally, I have five years of tutoring experience as an online Language Arts instructor. I apply creative online strategies to assist students with learning the desired concept in a short amount of time. Some strategies include purposeful questioning, modeling, student-based brainstorming, and redirecting.
